In case that your Vietnamese Passport does not provide the information on the “Place of Birth” of the Passport holder, you should submit, in addition, the Birth Certificate that has been duly legalized by the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of Vietnam (Consular legalization) or other valid Identity Document that bears such information on the place of birth.
BLS offices in Hanoi and HCMC can RESTART RECEIVING new application with these blue Passports, but must request to those applicants using blue Passports their valid Vietnamese ID (including the place of birth) in order to prove the place of birth needed for the visa application. This valid ID must be included in the application file.
“IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE EMBASSY OF SPAIN IN HANOI: Vietnamese authorities started gradually issuing new passports (blue passports) on 01.07.22. They do not include the field “place of birth”. This field is essential for the due identification of the applicant and must be included in the Schengen visa applications. Currently, in coordination with other Member States of the Schengen space, competent Spanish authorities are analysing the mattter at a technical leval. Current regulations do not allow the issuane of Schengen visas of Passport holders whose identity is not duely accredited in their passports.
Given this new situation, applicants of Schengen visas should bear in mind that,
If you had forseen travelling to several countries within the Schengen space, we recommend you contact the respective Embassies of these countries in order to confirm your case specifically with them, as you may encounter problems when traying to move within the Schengen space.
We regret any inconveniences caused by this situation, not originating in the Embassy of Spain in Vietnam, and we will keep you duely informed of the evolution of this matter.
